“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore,
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tosted to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door”.

Synopsis
Five families occupy an island off the coast of Denmark. Tourists were few but tolerated each summer. This year, the tourists failed to arrive. When the ferry captain returned to the island on the last fumes of fuel, she reported that part of the mainland had ‘just disappeared’, and the remaining population there appeared to have turned to cannibalism. Now a steady stream of newcomers have started to arrive, washing up on the shore in small rafts and lifeboats, starving and desperate, seeking sanctuary. Ten years on from the mainland’s disappearance, the island’s population has grown to 100. Of the original families there are now just nine children left. One leads them, Orla.
